Black Elephant Hostel - Portland

Perfect location! I loved having access to the garden and my room during the day. It was super quiet at night, even for this early bird.

The bunks squeak more than my grandma's old rocking chair. If you enjoy midnight showers, good luck with that!

An Really good Stay in Portland!

I had an very nice time here for 4 nights! The cozy kitchen allowed me to meet fellow travelers over breakfast, and the vibrant downtown buzz is just a few steps away. Be ready for a workout with the stairs, but you'll love the warm atmosphere!

The check-in was super smooth and I really enjoyed the clean private bathroom in my dorm. I liked hanging out in the cozy leisure room and taking some time in the beautiful garden area. It would have been nice to have a light breakfast option, but overall, I had a great stay 😊

The location was prime, allowing me to walk to many attractions. The staff were friendly, made check-in easy.

The room I stayed in felt a bit cramped for my needs.

The hostel has an eclectic charm, and the decor is fantastic! Cleanliness is a definite plus, and the staff is friendly overall. The late-night parking situation was tricky and check-in could have been friendlier, which did dampen the experience a bit.

I had an amazing stay, especially loving the cozy decor and spotless facilities. The communal kitchen was so well stocked, and I enjoyed relaxing in the beautifully curated lounge area. I’d definitely stay here again!

Stairs can be a hassle, especially after a long day out. In the Bunk Bed in Female Dormitory Room, tight quarters struggle to accommodate six guests comfortably, turning sleep into a challenge. A single bathroom for six leads to long waits, particularly with some guests hogging the shower.

As a budget traveler, I loved the central location of this hostel. It was within walking distance to the Old Town/Downtown area, making it easy to explore the city. The hostel also offered female dorms, which was great for a solo female traveler like myself. The staff were friendly and gave great recommendations for places to eat and visit. The overall environment was friendly and welcoming, with other guests being open to chat. The rooms and common areas were comfortable and clean. Plus, the hostel provided free coffee in the mornings, which was a nice bonus. I had an excellent and comfortable stay at this hostel.

During my Christmas stay, I really liked the friendly staff and the clean bathrooms. The staff were helpful and made me feel welcomed. Additionally, the bathrooms were well-maintained and provided a comfortable experience. The location of the hotel was also a key factor for me. It was conveniently situated within walking distance of the city, making it easy to explore and visit local attractions. Lastly, another advantage I enjoyed was the fun and funky atmosphere of the hotel. The lobby and back patio were great places to relax with a book or just hang out with friends.

On the downside, the heating in the rooms was a bit too hot at night for my liking. It made it a little uncomfortable for me, especially since I prefer cooler temperatures when I sleep.

The staff was friendly and check-in was a breeze. The bunk beds in the female dormitory were incredibly comfortable, and the other guests were respectful. The hostel even had lockers, a kitchen, and a beautiful garden. It felt luxurious!

The only downside was that there were no elevators, and the rooms were on the higher floors.
